I bent up 2 rims in my 1986 MR2 - took pictures of the crevasse and
damage, filed a claim in Cambridge MA. Got reimbursed within 90
days...of course, that was 20yrs ago...so now with technology, I'm sure
the bureaucracy has accelerated and grown as indicated below ;)

Some places add insult to injury. When a rotted tree planted in the
sidewalk fell on the 5KS, the City of Boston would only accept the claim
application if it was submitted with a non refundable $5 fee. This
municipal scam has the Nigerians beat, AFAIK they've NEVER reimbursed
anyone voluntarily for any damage, pothole or otherwise. Same story
just about everywhere, municipalities and states only pay out on
superior court cases years later, and those usually involve personal
injury.
Just write it off, if you chose not to, you'll be here on some other
board in a few years telling others to "just write it off."
