Thanks for all the input, everyone..... I found out some good info. Turns out my wife works with someone who is the head painter at the bodyshop where my car will be repaired... I've also talking to 2 neighbors that had work done there, and in looking at their cars, one of which was a rear quarter-panel job on a grey car like mine, the work was excellent. So, it will be worthwhile to wait the 6 weeks for the repair.

Regarding the new vs OEM panels, the shop owner told me that while insurance companies usually push for cheaper, non-OEM - or even used - parts, he said that quarter panels typically are OEM. He also said that it's up to the shop to find the appropriate parts (there is no insurance company employed appraiser involved) and he said that the for the German makes he typically ends up using OEM parts. I have also  called the insurance company and told them that I wanted OEM parts used.
