**** Try cleaning the motor brushes first.
You can get in there and clean the top brush with WD-40, and use a pick to
move the brush up and down.
The bottom brush you cant get at, but if you spray enough WD-40, the liquid
will run down and around the bottom brush.
Let it dry for about an hour before using the motor. I used a hair drier to
help things along.
The intermittant operation is caused by the worn brushes not making contact.
The years of carbon dust and oils make a stickly, gummy substance around the
brushes and they stick in their brush holders. The WD-40 will dissolve the
gum and free up the brushes.
I cleaned my brushes about 3 years ago, and the motor is still running. I
bought a new motor at the time . .and its still in the box.
