FW: Winners of the annual "Stella Awards."

My ex (before I knew her) around 1990 bought a coffee at 7/11 that was
served to her in a styrophome(sp?) cup. As she was pulling away from the
drivethrough with the cup in her hand the hot coffee inside melted the
bottom of the cup and went all over her lap and upper legs. In a panic, her
car was headed for the busy street ahead full of cars and trucks going
45-60mph. A bystander jumped in and pulled the e-brake.

Her scar 15 years later was very noticeable and prevented her from wearing
bikinis and the like. 

She did not sue because she felt embarrassed. 

I must admit, the first time I heard of the lady that sued for hot coffee, I
was like, WTF? But hot coffee should not be *that hot* and these lawsuits
force vendors to pay attention to stuff like that.

You can bitch as much as you like about frivolous lawsuits, but I think they
do more good by keeping people in check and forcing them to think of every
possibility that can get them sued and thus making for a safer place. 

How crappy would you feel if your wife/gf was served a coffee hot enough to
melt through her cup and the judge threw the case out because he felt that
she was just an idiot? It's up to the people (the Jury) to decide.

That's a real story for you guys...

Still frivolous in my opinion, any fool knows coffee is made  from boiled 
water which will burn you.  The fact that there are 700 fools  out there
doesn't 
make them not fools.  You put a cup of boiled water  between your legs at
your 
own risk.
