Water coming out of thing next to expansion tank

80 quattro with MC1 turbo motor.  Thought it was a bad tank, replaced  it and 
the cap.  Now upon looking closer there is a black canister just in  front of 
the expansion tank, with two small lines into it.  Is this the  carbon 
canister?  I know, look in the Bentley!  Anyway there is a  drain line, about 1/2 
dia and that is leaving a puddle under the car  overnight.  It does look and 
smell like antifreeze though, not gas.
 
Lets hear the theories on this one.
