removeing the front struts from a 88 5KTQ

Hi All
What do I heed to do the remove the front struts from a 88 5KTQ? I tried to 
remove several at the wrecking yard and I could not get then out. The front 
wheels where off the car, I could not remove the center nut so I removed the 3 
nuts on the adjustment plate but it would not move, what is holding them in? 
What do I need to do to get them out?
