91 V8 Quattro - Lemon?

A friend of mine picked up a V8Q for $600 knowing it needed a transmission.
(Automatic) He parted it out for many, many times the initial investment.

I'm using the engine for a non-boosted duplicate of Marc Swanson's project.

They do - they can buy your car if they think you weren't being very
accurate. The 'mob' can also declare 1 car to go to the crusher
  immediately during the competition.

I saw one for sale in RI for $600 - so its possible to get them
cheap...

I think the engines sell regularly for $1k or so (to Marc Swanson).

Doesn't Lemons have a kicker to keep an eye on value cheats, that they
can buy the car for $500 if they want to?
