Dealer Treatment II

Apparently, it doesn't just apply to the auto industry. Denise McLuggage, a
former pro-racer and scribe in Autoweek once wrote in her column how Sony
denied a warrantee claim on her Vaio laptop due to "acid" getting on the
mother board. A friend of hers, whom is a computer tech said (post return
mortem) that the acid (it was there, and it took time for it to do it's
damage) was put there during the soldering process at assembly, and it had
nothing to do with the end user, but since he wasn't a Sony Tech, his word
is worth nothing. So, in effect Sony denied a mfg defect in their warrantee
based upon something no normal user would ever do (bother to open up a
laptop, place acid on the mother board, close it up!?!?). If this is the
general trend of mfgs with warrantee claims, what good are they? FWIW, the
inside of the weld seam at the bottom of my Saabaru's hatch has started
surface rust along the seam (and I'm sure, inside the seam). Saab denied my
claim, since it hasn't rusted through (which is fairly unlikely in a 3 yr
old, 50K mile car). That's sweet, since the warrantee is now expired. As I
said, what is the worth of a warrantee, especially if the trend is a general
trend amongst all coorporations? (FWIW, I POR15'd the area, and am now
hoping for the best).
