chip soldering question

Jim,

If it is the 28 pin EPROM, I have some.  Definitely install a socket if it is not
already done.  Many of the Motronic units already are socketed – you might want to
check.

howdy all - i'm considering picking up a new ecu chip for my a4 [apr's
software]. it's an older version as it's  an actual solderable chip and not
a flashloaded ecu.

i'm wondering if anyone knows where i can get a chip socket? i have no idea
where to look. i'm pretty handy with a soldering iron, but are there any
'gotcha's i should know about? i assume it would be pretty easy to fry the
chip and/or ecu if not careful.
