My father has an A6 avant and it's a dog. Not that I don't like the car, I
do. It's comfortable, holds a lot of gear/people and has decent performance,
but it's rather sedate for my tastes.
Of course, I've been driving in-line 5 turbo Audi avants for a more than
five years now, all of which have been chipped and modded in other ways.
Are you sure you can't find an S6 avant anywhere close to you? After all,
you're considering a '97 Volvo. It seems to me a '95 avant might be
something to consider as well. . .
The Volvo you are considering may have a bit more usable space (due to the
more vertical configuration of the rear hatch), but the Audi has quattro. I
hate auto transmissions, but given a choice between quattro and non-quattro,
I'd always opt for the former. But I live where it snows, and snows a lot.
In both cars your hauling capacity will be greatly enhanced with a roof rack
(for lumber, bikes, etc) and rocket box (skis, luggage, etc).
Tom '95 S6 avant (MTM stage 1 with other goodies).
