I clutched too soon

> I've never seen this happen before" was the explanation.

Gee, I've heard that line a LOT over the years.

Either the dealers have much less experience than they claim OR they're
lying through their teeth. Or both.

Best one was a 73 Dodge van I bought new - on week after the warranty
went out, the brake pedal sank slowly, gracefully to the floor. Dealer
said warranty was out, tough luck, a call to and from the district
office convinced them otherwise, they fixed it free.

As we were walking up to the service desk, the service writer unlocked a
door and threw the dead master cylinder onto a pile of dead master
cylinders which must have been six feet high. As he did so, he calmly
said "I've never seen this happen before" to me. Exact quote.

I've heard this on electronic devices, airplane parts, motorcycles
afflicted with incurable speed wobbles, computer parts, you name it, but
mostly on cars. This is why I do most of my own work - why should I pay
some monkey "expert" prices when no matter what broke, he's "never seen
it before"? Isn't that what an expert is - someone who HAS seen it before?

When car dealerships start to treat their customers like adults instead
of walking, automotively ignorant wallets, then I'll go back. I have the
feeling it will be a LONG time . . .

Best Regards,

mechanical device)
