Battery life

My brother-in-law who drives a 1997 Cadillac Deville had an original battery
in the car 1 week ago. The car was driving on the Highway at 110 km/hr in
-5C weather. Car suddenly shut off. Could not be restarted, no lights
worked, nothing electrical, car was towed to a shop, luckily was open, the
battery was exchanged for a new battery. Solved the problem. I think battery
should be changed after 5 winters. No indicator light illuminated on dash.
Alternator was in order.

Climate and type of driving (frequency and duration) play a large role in
battery life. They're getting old, but you can always pull them to be
tested if you want to know HOW many CCA's they'll now put out.
