Light n Wiper switch replacement and or repair question

I did what Huw suggests and restored function to my rear wiper activation on
my Avant, using electrical contact cleaner.

The motor was bad when I bought the car and must have been bad for some time
because when I replaced it and started using the rear wiper, the switch
promptly decided to "fail" (in a snow storm in stop and go traffic on the
interstate, of course).
