Agreed removing the entire nose of the car to give you access to remove 
the drive train makes some kind of sense in this kind of a compact car.  
Removing the entire front of the car just to change the alternator is 
another story,  and that's the story that started this particular 
thread.  Having to do 5 hours work for a 20 minute job earns Audi a 
month's worth of profanity.

I can remove the engine from my 928, clean up and put the tools away in 
less time than it takes to 'move the lock carrier to the service 
position' and replace it.
