THIS alternator went at 85k, most GM's get up and past 100k without
problems, some WAY past 100k.  
Kind of ironic to be using 85k as a yardstick for anything on this
particular list, where depending on the model/year our cars have blown
coil packs @ <10k miles, dead clusters @ <20k , blown transmissions @
<50k, 60k timing belt intervals,  brakes that'll shake your fillings
loose @ <15k, @ >85k....I don't have time, the type 44 alone would take
me half the day to list.  

Germans seem to over engineer things, and not always for the better.  At
least it wasn't a glorified Mercedes:
