There's a second caveat. Those temporary NH plates are not recognized
in other states as valid. I drove around on one for two weeks in
Massachusetts and didn't get stopped...but if I had, the ticket would
read "operating an unregistered vehicle."
There's two issues here...the first is the registration, the second
is the insurance. I've never driven a car without any plate...but a
few times I've driven cars with plates that were coming off another
car...(ie that car was being sold, and I was in the process of
transferring the plates)
Usually the insurance can be arranged with a phone call (depending on
the state you're in...)
