Steering rack

Ideally, we all would be able to see that a leaking rack got replaced as soon as the leak developed. Ideally, there would be no vehicle or other piece of petroleum-lubricated equipment leaking anywhere.
But if you have to drive your leaky rack to a repair place, why pay $20 a quart for the fluid? You don't want to run the system without any oil.
I don't think anyone suggested using a cheaper oil as a "fix". Rather, as a substitute until repairs can be made. At least that's how I've used the alternative oil I've used. Until I could fix it.

awesome stuff to have in the drinking supply.
a rack is 400$ and a few hours. suck it up and fix it. a puddle under the
front of your car is SO white-trash-chic.
