Believe it or not, the starter is even more of the PITA on a E36 BMW 
(I'm a traitor and now am driving a 95 318 convertible.)  I had to do 
one recently, and was dreaming of the ease of an Audi starter 
change.  At least I don't have the 6 cylinder (for this particular 
operation) where you have to remove the intake to get at the starter.
