I do know that the thermostat seems to be stuck open, as the engine doesn't warm up properly. I'm kind of hoping that if I can get the temp up properly, that it might eke through. But in the absence of a service manual, I can't even find the thermostat. Would one of you kind people please provide some clues to it's location, and tips for RandR?

I thought 12v.org used to have my instructions for replacing the T-stat without removing the timing belt.

I would have to dig through my notes on my primary computer to see if I still have the instructions somewhere.
Won't happen today...
Going boating on the St. Croix and Mississippi rivers with some friends.

I was able to successfully change out the T-stat on my '93 90S when I owned it without removing the timing belt.
You have to remove the plastic front engine covers to expose the T-stat housing.
Remove the hose from the T-stat housing (coolant will drain out).
Remove the two T-stat housing bolts.
Then you have to twist the timing belt and wiggle out the T-stat housing to the left.
Then replace the T-stat and the gasket with new.
Put pipe thread sealant on the longer T-stat housing bolt when you reinstall as this bolt goes into the water jacket.

I used to park the car on a slight incline with the nose down so that once you have it all buttoned up, you can use the bleed valve on the heater hose by the firewall to bleed air out of the system.
