On Fay's '95 A6 it is the instrument panel light dimmer. Fay, you must have
pushed it in while you were traveling. This sets your speed warning. Once
you go over that by 10mph it will warn you. I think if you go even faster,
say 20mph over, it stops yelling at you. Or maybe it starts beeping as soon
as you go over the speed you set it at and goes off if 10mph over set
speed. Can't recall which scenario is true at the moment but it definitely
will go off if you go faster. So press on the GO pedal ;-)
If you press the dimmer knob while the car is stopped it will scroll through
the Auto Check system.
