Derrick,

The fuel pump will not necessarily turn on with the key, and if so only momentarily.
The fuel pump relay prevents the pump from running unless the engine is cranking.
Sometimes turning the key on will activate the relay to kick the pump on for a second.

It is possible the starter or solenoid has locked up.  More likely, you have oxidation
on many of your connections.  This happens from setting and a layer of non-conductive
film forms at connections.  In particular, check the battery posts and terminals.
Unbolt ground straps and clean these and other connections.

A fresh battery wouldn’t hurt.  Yours may have become weak from setting, developed
internal shorts, or have a faulty cell.  Lead Acid Batteries don’t take well to being
discharged for any length of time.

You also should drain the fuel and put some fresh fuel in and force the pump to run by
jumpering the fuel pump relay terminals.  Perhaps with some fuel injection cleaner any
varnish buildup can be purged from the system.  You may need to do a thorough cleaning
to your fuel injection system.

Not driving a car for some time without storing it properly is not always a good way to
preserve a car – sometimes you have to do what you do.  Good luck getting it back on the
road.

hello everyone, my name is derrick and i am new to
this list. i currently own a 87.5 cgt with the 2.3, i
have had this car in storage for about three years due
to traveling for work.  anyways here is my problem, i
charged the battery and everything as far as i can
tell is working, but turn the key and no dice, no
click nothing, any ideas?  shouldn't i hear the fuel
pump priming right before i turn the key?
