A dead coil is a sure way to set a cat on fire, unless the engine management
can shut the fuel on the dead cylinder. Our Saab got a new turbo, a new
downpipe with flex and catalytic converter just because of a dead coil in
the 4-coil ignition cassette. Luckily, it was under warranty.
