Art,

I noticed your car is the 1.8T I am wondering if that is the difference.
Looking at my car again, Chris Semple's e-mail makes much more sense. Once
the anti-roll bar is removed unbolting the LOWER oil pan should be cake.

thanks everyone for their input,

Jeremiah

Tony is right. It's a major job. Took me two days. I made my own engine
support
(http://members.cox.net/ambox/audi_sludge/#OilPan,Pump,andSuctionScreen).
You should get the manual if you try this (www.bentleypublishers.com).

You have to remove the front engine mount as well as drop the
subframe. While you are in there, pull the pickup tube and clean the
junk (sludge and carbon) out if it. To drop the subframe, pull the
lower motor mount bolts. BTW, you will have to support the engine from
the top.
