A6 trunk latch

Has anyone else had an issue with A6 (05 or newer) trunk latch.
Ours has gone inop and?both dealers are booked till Friday.
My lovely SO cannot go Black Friday shopping with an unlocked trunk. This?creates a ripple in the fabric of the universe of staggering proportion. I have lubricated it to no avail.
I can do some disassembly tonite but any BTDT before-hand would maybe prevent me from breaking attachment tabs or other bonehead maneuvers.
