Alternator "brushes" Q

My alt recently quit charging. I had unusual results during the typical
troubleshooting steps. The last thing I did was remove the regulator, spray
it with electrical contact cleaner, spray some electrical contact cleaner
inside the alt through the regulator hole, and reassembled. Has been fine
since. The brushes were obviously worn, but not worn down all the way.
