You asked:
"I thought this would be easy?!
Having replaced my ignition contact block that was falling to bits I
thought my starter problems were over.
I now get a healthy twelve volts on the starter solenoid but nothing else
so maybe the solenoid is stuffed?
So I thought I might pull the starter out and clean in up and test it on
the bench.
I found one 14 mm nut to undo at the bottom of the starter that I have
loosened I then attempted to find another you would expect to find it
diagonally opposite.
It is pretty hard to see around there but I can't find it. Am I missing a
trick here?
Thanks in advance for the words of wisdom that will flow."

The top bolt is one of those you can't both see and touch at the same
time. Having done this job twice in the past week, I can help you out.
Remove the battery ground. Remove the wiring from the starter post and
the push on lug, and move it out of the way. I found it best to move the
oil sensor wire out of it's clips, too. Remove the right front wheel and
reach on through the opening for the axle. Hidden behind the exhaust down
pipe is the bolt. I used a 19mm 1/2" drive short impact socket and an 1/2
inch impact gun. I tried miscellaneous other combinations of sockets,
extensions, ratchets, and universal swivels, but this was the only thing
thast worked. Trust me, there's room in there. I just left it all in
there until I ran the bolt back in, turning it first with my fingertips.
Last thing to remove is the nut and washer from the 10mm through bolt at
the bottom of the starter. Installation, as they say, is the reverse of
this procedure .........
