A4 wheel upgrade + question

I have been slow thanking everyone for the advice on upgrading wheels on my
A4tq. The 2007 17 inchers with Continentals look great and ride better than
the aftermarket 18s with rubber bands put on by a previous owner. The
handling is also improved with better feel and feedback.

New question: This car has only a little over 100,000 miles on it, but I
have just begun to experience a strange phenomenon. To make matters worse,
it is not consistent! What is happening is that occasionally the car gets
surrounded by smoke when I come to a stop. Of course, it usually happens at
a stop light during rush hour. Anyway, I can't tell, but it seems to come
from the exhaust. Though it might not . . . Is it possible that a seal on
the turbo is going? There is no smoke at all on start up, so I doubt it is
valve seals. I have not yet done a leak down test. I'll be replacing the
timing belt, etc., soon, so it would be a good time to delve in and fix
this. Diagnostic suggestions would be appreciated.

Peace,
Ben
