Well there you go :-)

I was pulling 1 sparkplug at a time while the motor was running - just
to see if there was any difference;

-- pulled #1 didn't seem to change, put #1 back

-- pulled #2 seemed to change just a bit, but not so much that I was
sure

-- put #2 back, and pulled #1 again - car dies...

Huh?

Back to no-start...

Vittorio -

Hopefully it keeps running!

up the test light and the fuel pump seems to be behaving properly. I
rolled under the car while blipping the throttle, it didn't seem to
change noise.

misses slightly (if your just cruising, maintaining a constant speed, 35
or so, although the speed seems to be irrelevant) - Under full throttle
it seems to respond well - but I'd say its slightly under power. Like it
wasn't getting full flame in the pistons or something - but its hardly
noticeable...

engine vibrations would be enough to cause intermittent failures.

>In one of my VW QSWs (same engine and tranny- JT code- as in 4KQ) the
plastic wheel inside the distributor broke, causing it to completely
fail--no spark. It happened at a gas station right after filling the
tank. I started the car and everything went dead 5 seconds or so later.

>In any event, $175 just for the hall sender is ridiculous. You could
get a whole rebuilt distributor for as low as $85 plus free shipping
from e-Bay. As with any purchase on the internet, especially automotive
parts, make sure you contact the seller to make sure they send you the
correct part.
