Because VAG chooses to maintain the use of wear capable cable mechanisms vs
the notably more expensive, heavier and bulkier scissors or screw drive
systems (of which mfgs actually use them? who knows?). Be glad that this is
a typical VAG problem vs. Acura TL's (and D-C Minivans) which according to
the other forum I frequent have auto transmission problems.
