S6 Rack woes

Listers,
After 4 type 44 steering rack jobs I thought I was ready for the 95 S6
variant. Hmmm let's see how this looks, Hydraulic fitting in impossible
places (check), Rack comes out through impossibly tight space while dragging
past lots of easily breakable bits (check). Good to see Audi design doesn't
change.
Got new Jorgen rack and high pressure hose installed without issue. I
double/triple checking the fittings both against by removal notes and the
Jorgen tag (High hose pressure to the rear higher port). With wheels off
the ground I topped up the system with Hydraulic and fired the car up. The
first sign of trouble was the steering wheel moving by itself, never seen
that while bleeding a rack! Spun the wheel side to side, doesn't feel right
and no sign of the bubbles in the tank from the air bleeding out. At this
point the seal on the rack at the splined shaft let go and hydraulic
starting pouring into the driver's foot well.
So before I call Jorgen Monday to figure out how to sort this mess, anyone
have a similar issue? I've used a Jorgen rack before without issue and the
general list consensus on them seemed good.
Secondly anyone know a good technique for getting all of the oil out of the
carpets in the footwell?
Cheers
