You ask a very good question, and one that I have wondered about also..
I think I *may* have an answer. I now have two urqs, both with MC1
conversions in them. However, one has a K26 turbo, and the other has a K24
turbo.
I'm thiniking that the different turbos may be the reason for a lot of the
difference in sound. All other things being (almost) equal in my case, the
one with the K26 sounds *soooo* much tougher.
Now if you look at the naked turbos, there is a fair amount of difference in
the turbo outlet size.
My theory is that the much smalller turbo outlet of the K24 turbo does a much
better job of acting like a 'muffler', and keeps the interesting noises
trapped inside, while the larger K26 turbo lets the good sounds out.. :-)
