X 1/9, MR2, 914-6 and Fox

Actually I sold my 1999 Honda VFR Interceptor (motorcycle for those who
don't know) last year and bought a 1992 MR2 Turbo with modified suspension,
17" wheels, 3" downpipe and full exhaust, K&N intake and LED rear lights.
That car is a blast, and unlike the motorcycle, if I lose traction I don't
fall over :) I would say it is very involving, but it never feels that
solid.

Compared to my 91 200 20v it has much less turbo lag and much more direct
handling. With snow tires it is actually pretty good in the snow too. The
Audi feels better build, and once the turbo spools it feel somehow more
manic.

My other fun car is a 1957 Triumph TR3, which actually makes the MR2 feel
big and posh.

This is one of few Toyotas I'd consider as well. One of my former
co-workers commuted 100+ miles a day and had one. He was involved in a head
on collision on a 2-lane highway on his way home from work one day. He got
a free helicopter ride to the hospital, but was fortunate not too have any
serious injury.

Since we're going off track I'll admit that I'm kinda hankering for a 914-6
myself ... I want something old enough that I don't have to worry about smog
tests.

A very good friend of mine had an X1/9 back in the '80s ... he may have sold
it to get a VW GTi, which he still owns and is probably up to 400K miles now
... but he still regrets not keeping the Fiat. With all the rumors of
reliability problems he had few if any. Funny, this sounds like what they
were saying about Audis back in 1978 when I bought the Fox!

If you lust for an X 1/9 go buy an MR2.? Better car, same looks and
handling. They also don't rust out quite as fast.? Not to say I didn't make
the mistake of buying an Italian car.? Got an Alfa spider last year.? Really
makes me appreciate german engineering!
