I had an '08 A4 rental car in the UK for a couple of months earlier this
year and I recall that being the case - the LEDs go off while the turn
signal is on (noticed it in reflections from car in front of me).
Though can't be 100% certain as I shut off the silly DRLs when I found
the option in the MMI.
