Allroad torque converter failure.

 So, over the weekend I had an ignition coil failure, and at nearly  the
same time, a torque converter lockup failure. The code is* 17125 P0741 035
torque converter lock-up clutch performance or stuck off. The car is a 2003
Allroad with a 2.7T, and (obviously) an auto trans.

So, my understanding is that the cure is torque converter replacement. Any
opinions/experience with this? I've heard tell that there are good quality
aftermarket converters available, but I haven't heard from whom. Also, if
anyone has experience with just replacing the seal in the converter, I'd
love to hear how that went.
