Tuning for High Altitude Performance

... gotta agree with Professor L here ... I remember when I flew to Denver
to buy the first 5-speed V8Q ... as I drove the car I wondered if I had made
a mistake! Things changed noticeably when I got home and to sea level ...

I've felt that the "perfect storm" of altitude, turbo and quattro led to
Audi being so popular in Colorado. Of course having the right people there
made a big difference too. Were I to find myself living in that sort of
altitude I would most likely go toward boosted powerplants.

All this said, you can and should have your car adjusted for operation at
altitude, and it will make some difference. When I drove the urq to AF97,
even the turbocharged motor was off at the Eisenhower Tunnel, and up on the
"climb to the clouds" ...

There is nothing much you can do. Your dealing with precisely why the
turbosupercharger was invented, to restore performance to aircraft at
altitude. It's simply a problem of lack of oxygen at altitude. You're stuck,
as is everyone else with a Normally Aspirated automobile.
