Huw,

I beg to differ, but really beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and this is a
beautiful car. There were not many of these imported. Performance was not stellar, but
even stock was not bad.

You really can't compare a car destined to be a classic( most would think they already
are) with much of the new stuff out - applse and oranges.

Pick the mark Audi, BMW, Porsche and many Japanese makes - many of these cars were not
just run of the mill cars, but something special.

If you find one that is in good condition body-wise but needs most mechanicals replaced,
what is that worth. I've been seeing these go for around $1500 - at least in this area.
Then add in all the new stuff. You are looking at a rebuilt to new car that for $5k is
a great value - still mostly stock engine-wise. Then someone really would be hard
pressed to find a complete 3B or AAN engine package for under $2500 - and still remains,
installation and all the other bits to make it a decent turbo conversion. Is it worth
it - not for everyone perhaps.

Much can be said of the older 4kq's and especially the CGT's that are now going up in
value. I just sold an '86 CGT - nothing special, but new owner was very happy to pay
$2k and would have gone higher. Car needed tires all-around, and much other fixin',
including front axle and control arms, exhaust repairs and several other items. The
engine ran great, and shortly he will have the coolest car around of any of his buddies.

Just my opinion, but largely based on my experience.

Cheers!

Ben

Wait, so a nice coupe with a *badly* done 20vt conversion would be worth
$10k?

I find it hard to believe a stock one, no matter how good the condition,
could be worth more than $3k.

As far as "converted" ones, what have fully-sorted ersatz-RS2s changed
hands for, anyone know?
