4k died while driving....no spark

my 4k fwd auto this morning felt like it was having shifting issues shuddering and bucking before shifting. then this afternoon the car died while driving in the rain. a quick check while waiting for the wrecker showed no spark at the coil wire. due to a rain/snow mix all day, i haven't had a chance to dig deeper. any idea's?
