4k died while driving....no spark

The first thing to check for is 12V with the key on at the coil. Then,
while cranking, you should have a switching signal (12V, then ground,
back and dforth) at the "1" terminal of the coil. If no switching
(which is what I suspect you wll find) you will have to dig deeper.
The next place I'd go is to the hall sender. The outside wires are 12V
and ground, and the center is the ~4.5 V reference for the ign control
unit. That is, if it's like the others I've worked on, and my memory
is correct. To check it, pull it, then turn by hand while the ign
switch is on. It should switch from 4.5V to none as you slowly turn
the gear of the distributor. The other thing to check of course is the
grounds on the engine from the body and harness on the intake
manifold.
