1. 4.2 is very durable. treat it to 8 qts of good synthetic every,
say, 5-8k miles.Curse hans who placed the wine bottle sized oil
filter behind the cradle and the anit-roll bar. Drink old oil.
2. TB service is now suggested at 60k ( audi revision) 75k ( general
consensus). It is very costly on that car. $2500 at my dealer;
$1600-1900 indie, with OEM parts - this includes serp belt, seals,
the works.
3. all C5 cars eat TREs and control arms ( 4 ball joints per wheel)
roughly at oil change intervals. OK, that's extreme, but 60-70k is
roughly the going interval.
4. the 4.2 motors is rated for torque just beyond what the tranny can
handle. you heard me right. On D1/D2 A8s they are eating torque
converters. Do regular service and dotn abuse it and all is well.
Run it at 105% and all is not well.
IMO, very nice cars. I have an 02 S6
