*91 100 FWD NF engine with CIS-E III stalls at times when hot, especially
when 100 degrees or higher ambient temp*.* won't restart until cooled down*
.....
I really appreciate all the ideas and suggestions from you guys. The
consensus seems to be leaning towards the hall sender.
A note to Kneale, when I said the car doesn't have the crank and cam
sensors, I will admit I was thinking of the type with the flywheel pins and
wired sensors to give a reading...you are right!
I might add I have tried a used complete distributor from an identical 91
100 parts car I have and I have had the stalling with both
distributors.......BUT, again....both used distributors and the parts car
did have a running problem.(I got it as a non-running car).....so swapping
distributors in this case may mean nothing.
On the suggestion about watching the tach when the stalling happens...yes, I
have watched the tach (neglected to mention that before) and when the car
first starts to cut out and stall, the tach does not waver at all...it
continues reading the normal rpm, without fluctuation, until the dash lights
come on and the engine is off
also had someone suggest vapor lock
I haven't tried unplugging the oxy sensor and seeing if it will start
Often when the car stalls I am by myself so no one to crank the engine and
check for spark. When it happened yesterday, the wife was with me but didn't
think about checking for spark. Guess my focus was getting her to a meeting
on time, wasn't thinking about diagnosing so much as getting home!
So the hall sender sounds like a good place to put extra
attention..........sure hate this intermittent stuff, sure a lot easier to
check an electrical problem if it is permanent...BUT electrics don't seem to
work that way!
Thanks again for the ideas from all of you...........appreciate it
