Everything but the battery is on the "happy" side of that splice - so 
when the car is running, if the alt is doing its job, you should see 
that awesome Bosch "let's not burn out the headlights" 12.7-13.2 volts.

The splice, when bad, only interferes with charging the battery (and 
using the battery to run the hurricane fan, I guess?).

I had to suppress signing this with four tildes... it's that bad...
