Preparing For Motor Swap '88 5kCSQA

Recently I picked up the MC-1 I'll be swapping into my old '88 5kCSQA Hangar
Queen to get it back on the road . Thanks John!
I've got the motor on the stand and am planning my next steps . thought I'd
toss it out for BTDT .
The "new" motor has no peripherals at all, so I'll be transplanting stuff
from the old motor and incorporating the new bits I've collected over time.
I need to swap the transmission as well as the engine proper, and I have a
brand new 5-speed sitting in a box . a new clutch is a given .
It looks like the engine was weeping a bit around the oil pump . Is it a
real big deal to pull the oil pump after the crank pulley is off? I am
redoing the TB/Water pump. I will do the cam seal and RMS before
reassembly. Any other seals?
At present I'm not planning to do anything to the engine proper other than
the seals (and probably the oil pump gasket. I suppose I should consider
swapping in the nearly new lifters the old engine had, but then again that
is something that can be done fairly easily in situ. Any other
recommendations?
I have a brand new 2-piece EM on the bench. It was originally slated for
ceramic coating and use in the urq. I hear differing opinions . is the
2-piece EM really much of an improvement? I've also got a brand new K-26
ready to drop in .
Should I mount the EM and turbo to the motor prior to assembly or wait until
the block is bolted up in the engine compartment? If the latter, should I
do the manifolds before or after reattaching the transaxle?
Should I bolt the transaxle to the motor prior to installation? Right now
I'm planning to mount the engine and then attach the transaxle . I've got
BTDT on doing a quattro clutch.
I will very likely rebuild the steering rack on general principles . I know
the one in there was replaced shortly before the TB went, but I'd hate to
have to redo the rack after the engine/tranny are in .
One thing I am looking forward to . the new engine has the smaller fitting
coming out of the crankcase area for PCV . which means I will never have to
worry about that stupid cast rubber "hose" the engine originally had.
The goal will be to get the car back into reliably running condition . It
would be a complete PITA if I ended up with nagging problems after going
through all this. Any other suggestions about what I should plan to do will
be appreciated .
