power steering hose question

hey all - been a while since i had a question, but with 180k on it the
a4 has been throwing some curves lately. like the cracked k04, which
just got downgraded to a used k03.
current conundrum is regarding the high pressure PS hose that runs
from rack to pump. i just replaced it last year with a worldpac part
when i had the trans out to do the clutch and of course it's failing
[the swaged termination at the pump end is leaky]. i no longer have
access to a lift, and i REALLY don't want to pay someone to fix it
right. the Fing hose is about 300$ from audi [hence the worldpac
part..] plus god knows how much labor to get it out.
what i'm thinking for a repair is to cut the hose near the ps pump,
have the end repaired / reterminated by a hydraulic hose shop and then
splice it back together with some tubing and hose clamps? does anyone
know if the hose will allow this? i.e. is it reinforced / constructed
in such a way that it won't take kindly to cutting and splicing? also
will hose clamps hold the pressure? i have no idea what kinda of
pressure the ps fluid is under.
thx
jim
