I tested for boost leaks, and found that there were a couple small ones that
I went ahead and fixed. After this the car seemed to idle better, but the
idle had jumped up to 1200rpm, and the car still had no torque. I also went
ahead and seafoamed the crankcase and intake, and changed the oil, which
further smoothed things out and cleared up that nasty lifter tick. I pulled
codes, got hall sender misalighnment, and intake air temp sensor.
Checked the timing which was off a tiny bit, and the IAT prob just needs to
be cleaned, the ends are still soldered fine.
I also pulled all the plugs, found that #1 had no gap at all, so I gapped it
and put it in, and #3 was badly carbon fouled (the rest were in great shape,
this car burns little to no oil that I can see :) ) but i found it rather
odd that only 3 was fouled. further investigation revealed that the dizzy
cap end for #3 was cracked, and the spark was arking back to the cap. so,
only running on 4 cylinders.
and I learned that even though the car was chipped at one point, someone
bought the chipped ecu out of it a couple weeks before I bought the car, but
left the 1.8bar WG spring in, I talked with the p/o and he aggreed to
reimburse me for a new chipped ecu because he neglected to tell me it was
put back to stock.......
so, with a new chipped ecu and a dizzy cap, this car should be back in
working order, but I just wanted to ask everyone here if they had any other
suggestions to look at so I'm not going crazy. this car NEEDS to come home
sunday,
thanks guys!
