Rear differential lock always on

I've experienced it in my 1995.5 S6. It's worse with some aftermarket wheels
that came on the car (not enough negative offset?). But is present even with
stock wheels and stock tire sizes. I'm in the process of swapping in a 6
speed so perhaps it'll behave differently with a different torsen in it. But
I doubt it.
