Bob, 
I just got an earful yesterday for putting two aluminimimun pans, a loaf pan and a pound cake pan in the dishwasher.  They were my wife's grandmother's and apparently never been anything other than hand-washed. I for one appreciate your plight, not that this is your doing, and although I'm no help I hope you get the pan fixed.  My wife wasn't the least bit happy with me....

For mold making I have heard very good things about alumilite.
