hood props fail at freezing temperatures?

[200q 20v]

I usually keep my car in the garage but recently left outside overnight.
Opened the hood in the morning to check fluids level and noticed that
hood does not stay open. Never happened before. Held hood open by hand
for a minute or two then props apparently gained enough power to keep
hood up. Is it the indication of a failure. There are no noticeable
leaks and if left in the warm garage there is no abnormal behavior
whatsoever. The part number is 443 823 359 B. I will put the spare one
in the freezer to see what happens. I measured around 300N force at room
temperature.
