Thanks I'll check that valve out. How did you check yours? The only way I
can see would be to pinch off the line to intake boot and see if it makes a
difference. Is there another way?
As for the frequency valve (potentiometer?) I disconnected the wires and it
did make a difference (for the worse) in how the engine ran and started.
I'll check Bentley for the way to check that and see if I can do it.

Not mentioned yet is the canister purge valve which looks like a vacuum leak
sometimes. I had similar issues and found mine was stuck open. Also, when I
was working this issue ('86 5ks KZ motor) I cleaned the metering plate in
the horn which was causing unmetered air to bypass. Also, did you check out
the frequency valve for function?
