bah, that's nothing. the us army, according to a report I read this week,
is actively developing the next generation of automous battlefield robot
that is capable of making err, "tactical" decisions. apparently the baddies
have a nasty habit of interfering with the uplinks that allow the current
devices to be under the control of a person with (presumably) relatively
advanced cognitive and moral sensitivities. clearly they must know
something about the state of computer science that i don't. lemme see, "the
bad guys are the ones with the beards and the scowls"...
back on the toyota recall, autonews is reporting that the usa rental fleets
are parking up their toyotas and the recall is now affecting europe as well.
that's pretty serious.
also, whilst i have "drive by wire" i have found the "hit the brake and the
throttle is closed" feature pretty annoying. on my current car you work
around it by the conscious effort of releasing the throttle and then
pressing it again - in which event the motronic allows both the brake and
throttle to be pressed together. i'm pretty happy with that as a
compromise...
