Rob-

I personally would agree with whoever expressed avoiding the 3.0L (regarding
AVK/BBK) through my own personal experience. Quite costly and quite
inefficient IMO. performance for fuel mileage is unacceptable to me. my cost
for a FULL t-belt R&R is nearly or over 2k! crazy..

As a servicer it doesnt bother me, but I did just have a customer trade his
'03 A6 when he soiled his pants after my T-belt quote. .. cam plugs alone
were something close to 400 each.. and theres 4 of them.. special tools
alone are a few hundred..

as for the 2.7t in any configuration.. great source of power with proper
mods or even stock will keep many happy. if you do your own work even
better. you'll get good at puling the engine within a few years.. because,,,
you will pull that engine, or pay someone else to.

your other potential would be what i would moreso lean towards. 1.8t's are
over done, everywhere (pro&con there) and far too often neglected to the
point of thousands to get correct, but if you find a gem, your cost in the
long run financially&emotionally will be better.

keep in mind, this is my own jaded opinion from working on these various
models for years and you know,, opinions are like ________..

as with all, look out for; goon rigging, front suspension/control arms,
trans/diff seals, engine seals, general preventative mantenance?, inst.
cluster issues, ABS pump codes, coil issues, etc.

if I sound negative, forgive me, theres lots to enjoy about these cars, but
also lots to criticize.
